Law and Audit Classes by CA Siddharth Agarwal at SSEI - (2012-01-25)

Commendable understanding and sincere effort in Theory subjects has been missing among Eastern Zone students. This causes a disparity in marks and students lose their attempt. 

Corporate and Allied Laws

The law paper in CA Final focuses more on the secretarial practise and analysis of case studies. Allied Laws comprises mainly of FEMA, SEBI Act and guidelines, SCRA besides other acts.

What ICAI expects out of a student in respect of this paper is “to be able to analyze and apply various provisions of the Companies Act in practical situations”.  But it has been increasingly noticed by the examiners that the students lack knowledge of provisions and their arguments fall short of reason when they answer a case study.

This is because a student gets carried away by the seemingly vast syllabus and gets lost in going through several case laws, circulars and notifications failing to separate the grain from the chaff. The provisions of an Act are like the trunk of the tree whereas the case laws, rules, circulars and notifications are the branches protruding from it.

The class notes and lectures have been engineered to focus on the trunk (provisions) at the same time keeping an eye on the branches. This coupled with lucid explanations of provisions and practise of case studies will go a long way in improving the retention and scores as well.

Advanced Auditing and Professional Ethics

This subject is the backbone of the profession and hence the institute expects quality answers from the prospective Chartered Accountants. The paper contains a lot of case studies to test the practical knowledge of a student.

This is why a lot of stress has been laid on the Standards on Auditing in the question paper. Case studies revolving around application of SAs comprise almost 40% in the exam. Examiner’s Feedback points out students’ lack of knowledge of SAs every term. Case studies asked in the exam are designed to test the practical auditing skills of the students.

From exam perspective it is incumbent on a student that he develops a strong approach in solving case studies which can be achieved only through classroom practise.

So the classes and lectures have been structured around building practical knowledge of SAs and audit of different entities like bank, insurance companies, stock exchange, etc. We believe the classes will inculcate a strong conceptual base of the subject which is not just helpful for exam but also in their professional practise.

RTP analysis of last 5 terms has been uploaded - (2011-07-08)

The RTP analysis has been uploaded in the DOWNLOAD section. It has demarcated the good and difficult sums which are a must practice. Although students are advised to solve the entire RTP, the most important sums and the ones which are different have been shortlisted for those who face time crunch. Sanjay Sir is also carrying out classes for solving each RTP once a week. A schedule of the same has been put up in the Calendar.
